Pride Day 2010

This is a post written by John about an event he recently attended. As always it is beautifully written and I am proud to share it with you.

(Sweet Customer)

Pride Day, 2010

So I spent a couple Saturdaysago (October 16, 2010) with about 3,500 folks in a celebration, primarily, of gay being. It used to be “Gay Pride Day”’ but I think they changed it so that no other group would feel they weren’t invited. These people are that nice. If they played hockey, it would be non-goal-oriented hockey.

Which makes what they go through that much sadder. Nobody bullies young people who are, well, bullies. When was the last time you heard of anybody beating up Young Republicans for fun? Nobody suggests that if too many left-handed people teach school, we’ll wind up with a generation of southpaws.

Discovering who we are and where we fit in the world is tough enough for anybody. Toadd an extra layer of self-doubt, isolation and anxiety is a substantial burden.

However, when these folks get healthy, they do love to celebrate. They are smart, kind, creative, and they love to be beautiful for each other. How, in the name of all that is self-affirmative and rational, can this be construed as anything other than healthy?

When I told my 85-year-old Catholic mom where and ho I’d spent my day, she sounded as if she were concerned for my safety. Which brings us to another useless bugaboo – honestly, gay folks ARE interested in things besides sex. There seems to be a residual image of gay folk as people who are continually scurrying around in dim places, furtively seeking compulsive sex. Well, sometimes we all……….never mind.

Anyhow, I didn’t sell as much stuff as I could have because I spent more time than I should have out roaming and meeting and mingling – and having FUN!

Enjoy the pics – and respond, comment, question orshare humor – as you please. Peace and love, y’all. ~John

NEW Etched Copper Pendants

Happy Thursday! I am excited to share something new with y'all. Dylan Blue is offering etched copper pendants now! These are truly awesome and unique. The pictures do not do them justice- to really appreciate you must see and feel these beauties! This is all John- his creativeness and talent is AAAA~Mazing! He would never say it so I will- his art and jewelry just plain ROCKS!!
Here is the process of the etched copper pendants in John's words ~
"The design is painted on the metal in a protective acrylic coating. The piece is then immersed in a caustic fluid and the uncover surface is etched away, leaving the design in raised relief"

The possibilities of what can be done with this are about as open as with the enameled copper ones- with a few exceptions- if you want to know just ask. John is wonderful at making it work- so sure if your exact idea can not be done- he has an equally as cool idea that you will love!
I will start listing these in the etsy shop by this weekend. Just in time for the holiday season! They will be price the same as our other pendants in keeping with the idea that we are really working hard to make giving someone (or yourself) and original handmade piece of jewelry affordable!

NEW Design, NEW Designs and NEW Prices

Hello Friends! I have missed y'all! Sorry for be lazy on posting recently, with the kids home summer and John doing local shows and venues.... well really that's all I got in way of an excuse. BUT I am back with some great news and exciting show and tell.
First Dylan Blue, although not posting, is still hard at work and as determined as ever to continue on our path. Our goal is to create beautiful creations for beautiful people, while forming beautiful relationships along the way. Our process is unique and our desire to provide excellent customer service is unmatched!
While preparing to revamp up on marketing and networking we have decided to give our Dylan Blue etsy shop and our blog here a 'face-lift'. I worked hard on designing a banner that showcased John's gorgeous talent and utilized our logo that we love! What do y'all think? I hope you like it as much as we do. Love for your to leave a comment on our new banner on etsy- and here on our blog!
We have tons of new designs ready to be listed and others that we are working on. We always welcome hearing what you would like to see on a Dylan Blue pendant, you can always comment below or on our Facebook page. Keep an eye out for lots of designs and design lines to come.
Finally I am super excited to say that John and I have really focused on making our pendants and jewelry AFFORDABLE. We know times are hard, bills keep on coming and the kids gotta eat (and eat and eat) and we really wanted to making something that people could buy without feeling guilty. Everyone needs to buy themselves a nice little something once in a while, us women especially understand this, and gift giving should not wipe out your savings. John and I are regular hard working people with families and we find that in this way we can relate to out customers- which we like to call friends! So our new prices making owning your own handmade gorgeous Dylan Blue pendant something you will feel great about!
